Gordon Snow Community Centre & Fire Station 45

This community centre & fire station in Fall River, NS is a 38,000 square foot facility. The structure is a combination of cast in place concrete, steel and insulated tilt-up panels. The exterior tilt-up panels support the upper floor level as well as roofs at several levels. There is a curved high roof in the centre of the building that allows for natural illumination of the interior. The main fire bay is floor is a two reinforced concrete slab with a mechanical room and cistern below a portion of it. With exception to the fire truck bays, the upper floor is comprised of steel columns, joist and deck with a concrete topping. The 100 foot by 78 foot gymnasium also uses tilt-up exterior panels with long span open web steel joists and steel deck for the roof structure. The complex includes a skate board park as well as a timber pagoda structure.
