LaHave River CleanupWith the recent signing of a contract to design approximately 600 new on-site sewage disposal systems along the Lahave River for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL), ABLE Engineering begins its fourth project solving a rural community sewage management problem in Nova Scotia, by fixing things one home at a time.

“Addressing a community’s sewage treatment requirements by approaching each home, using modern on-site sewage disposal methods is something that Nova Scotia Municipalities are starting to realize offers not only the most cost effective solution,” said company president Andre Veinotte, P.Eng., “but one that does not demand a large initial investment and does not rely upon future development and population growth to pay for it.”

The Lahave River project is the firm’s largest such undertaking, although three other Nova Scotia communities are already in the process of working with ABLE Engineering to achieve similar outcomes. The first such project in the Province, in Richmond County on Isle Madame, is in its second year, and will ultimately serve over 300 homes. Another, in Wedgeport in the Municipality of Argyle, is also underway and will serve about 400 more. Mahone Bay, close to ABLE’s head office in Chester, is also doing a similar review of potential straight pipe, but smaller project of about 10-20 homes.
